Staff Scientist I (Environmental Science)

Location: Hybrid role based in Holden, Massachusetts, with onsite work and travel to project sites within the United States for week-long sampling events, up to two weeks per month. Shifts may run from noon to midnight.

Salary: Starting at $55,000 annually; final compensation depends on qualifications and licensing status.

What you will do

• Perform fish sampling at water intakes for power generation and industrial facilities.
• Conduct environmental field sampling and monitoring according to study plans and protocols.
• Operate, maintain, and calibrate water quality meters, data sondes, composite water samplers, and pumps.
• Collect, process, preserve, and prepare environmental samples for laboratory analysis.
• Lead field technicians, coordinate sampling events, and communicate with project teams and site personnel.
• Complete field documentation, perform data entry and QA/QC review, analyze data, and support technical reports and project deliverables.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science, Environmental Science, Biology, or comparable experience preferred.
• Ability to work primarily outdoors and occasionally in an office environment.
• Ability to travel to U.S. project sites and work onsite during noon-to-midnight shifts.
• Ability to carry up to 50 pounds; a valid driver's license is required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to pass a drug screening and background check.

Nice to have

• OSHA 10-hour or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Technical reporting experience related to permitting and environmental compliance in the power generation industry.
• Experience with R, ArcGIS, Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, statistical analysis, and data management.
