Sr. Process Engineer-Chemist (Paper Manufacturing)

Location: Brownville and Lowville, New York mills; onsite role with up to 10% travel

Salary range: $80,600–$127,400 per year

What you will do

• Develop expertise in manufacturing equipment and processes to support new product development, process optimization, and cost reduction.
• Drive quality performance and continuous improvement across papermaking and off-line coating processes.
• Conduct laboratory and machine trials, determine Critical to Quality specifications, and execute trial plans with cross-functional teams.
• Lead safety initiatives, process capability analysis, supplier quality work, and compliance with corporate, state, and federal requirements.
• Support capital projects, product design, intellectual property control, and Stage-Gate project execution.
• Prepare technical reports documenting trial results, cause-and-effect relationships, conclusions, and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, pulp and paper science, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of manufacturing experience in paper or coating operations.
• Ability to design and evaluate equipment and processes involving chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
• Strong process troubleshooting, quantitative, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Experience with Microsoft applications, quality databases, and ERP systems.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment and matrix reporting structure.

Nice to have

• Experience with Lean and Six Sigma continuous improvement methods.
• Knowledge of DCS/QCS systems.
• Saturation and coating application or formulation experience.
