Chemical/Paper Engineer - All Mills

Location: Onsite at PCA mill locations in Counce, TN; DeRidder, LA; Filer City, MI; International Falls, MN; Jackson, AL; Massillon, OH; Gladstone, VA; Tomahawk, WI; Valdosta, GA; or Wallula, WA. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Starting salary: $86,000–$90,000 per year.

What you will do

• Optimize mill processes through technical studies, troubleshooting, lean projects, technology implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Analyze production, process, quality, and cost data to identify trends, reduce costs, improve quality, and support operating decisions.
• Provide technical direction, troubleshooting support, programming assistance, and control-system solutions for mill operations and maintenance.
• Plan, program, maintain, and improve PLC, distributed control, quality control, HMI, instrumentation, and related process-control systems.
• Support process modifications, capital projects, system design, installation, startup, control tuning, and mill improvement efforts.
• Coordinate with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and external resources while supporting mill safety, environmental, quality, productivity, and reliability expectations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, paper engineering, or a related field.
• 0–4 years of experience in process engineering or the paper industry.
• Authorization to work in the U.S. and a valid driver’s license.
• Experience using AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Project.
• Familiarity with instrumentation and control systems.
• Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints, multitask, build sound relationships, and handle multiple requests simultaneously.
• Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, computer, planning, follow-up, people-management, and process-management skills.
• Ability to make independent decisions through creative problem-solving and operate effectively amid ambiguity and change.
• Ability to read and understand technical correspondence, memos, instructions, and reports; apply continuous process-improvement skills while maintaining high safety standards; and demonstrate leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in related fields or co-op/internship experience in the paper industry.
• Current membership in the paper foundation at the listed universities or enrollment at a state or technological university in one of the listed states.
• Students who sign up for interviews during Career Fairs and On-Campus Interview days at the listed schools receive first consideration.
