TL;DR
Forensic Structural Engineer III (Structural Engineering): Investigating and evaluating structural damage from storms, fires, accidents, defects, and foundation movement with an accent on field inspections, failure analysis, and defensible technical reporting. Focus on determining cause and extent, conducting roof and confined-space investigations, managing client communications, and developing conclusions that meet applicable standards.

Location: Remote home office in Tampa or Orlando or the surrounding area, Florida, USA. The role includes local, regional, and national field travel, roof inspections, confined-space work, and occasional overnight travel.

Base salary: $125,000–$185,000 per year, plus additional nondiscretionary compensation tied to billable productivity.

What you will do

  • Conduct forensic site inspections to determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural damage.
  • Evaluate failure modes and contributing factors related to storms, natural disasters, fires, explosions, defects, accidents, and foundation movement.
  • Develop clear technical reports, documentation, conclusions, and client deliverables.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders while managing expectations and resolving issues.
  • Work independently from a home office while collaborating with internal experts and external partners.
  • Contribute improvements to processes, tools, and customer outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of forensic engineering experience; 5–10 years is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or a closely related field, from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Florida or eligibility by reciprocity.
  • Strong technical writing, report preparation, verbal communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including confined-space and roof inspections, carry ladders, and operate required equipment.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or restrictions.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Expert witness experience.
