TL;DR
Principal Cloud Engineer (AWS): Defining cloud engineering strategy and building secure, resilient, cost-optimized AWS platforms for mission-critical financial applications with an accent on enterprise architecture, infrastructure as code, compliance, and operational excellence. Focus on leading complex cloud migrations, designing disaster recovery and observability, solving cross-system reliability challenges, and establishing security controls for regulated transactional environments.

Location: Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Phoenix, or remote within the United States. Scottsdale, San Francisco, Chicago, and New York positions follow a hybrid model. Applicants must independently be eligible to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $173,000–$230,000 per year for Phoenix, Chicago, and remote U.S. positions; $207,000–$242,000 per year for San Francisco positions. Additional discretionary incentive plan and benefits are available.

What you will do

  • Define AWS cloud engineering strategy, reference architectures, standards, and enterprise implementation patterns.
  • Design scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-optimized cloud-native platforms using services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, EKS, IAM, VPC, and KMS.
  • Lead complex infrastructure and platform problem-solving, incident root cause analysis, corrective actions, and operational readiness improvements.
  • Establish infrastructure-as-code, automation, CI/CD, observability, vulnerability management, and configuration compliance practices.
  • Architect disaster recovery, high availability, backup, fault tolerance, identity management, network segmentation, encryption, and secrets-handling strategies.
  • Partner with engineering, security, risk, compliance, and platform teams; influence roadmaps, support audits, document standards, and mentor engineers and technical leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Approximately 15 years of experience in cloud, infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or related technical roles, including approximately 5 years designing and operating enterprise-scale AWS solutions.
  • Deep expertise in AWS core services, Kubernetes, container platforms, Linux, distributed systems, and Terraform-based infrastructure as code.
  • Experience leading architecture and technical direction for large-scale, business-critical cloud platforms or migrations.
  • Experience with CI/CD, secure engineering, testing, operational readiness, observability, and software delivery lifecycle practices.
  • Experience implementing security and compliance controls aligned with PCI-DSS, SOC 2, FFIEC, or similar frameworks; background and drug screening are required.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree and current AWS or other cloud certifications.
  • Experience with regulated-environment cloud migration, policy as code, governance frameworks, and developer enablement.
  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, Splunk, AppDynamics, or container and workload security technologies.
  • Programming or scripting experience with Python, Java, C#, Ruby, or Shell.
  • Knowledge of ACH/EFT, RTP, FedNow, fintech, banking, payments, or other regulated industries.
