TL;DR
Electrical Engineer II (Embedded Power Electronics): Designing and owning embedded power electronics hardware for battery-powered power tools and outdoor equipment with an accent on power conversion, motor control, MOSFET switching, and low-voltage high-current systems. Focus on designing inverter and bridge power stages, debugging prototypes, developing PCB hardware, and collaborating on hardware/firmware interfaces.

Location: Onsite at the headquarters in Anderson, South Carolina, United States

Company

Techtronic Industries develops cordless power tools, outdoor power equipment, accessories, and hand tools, including products under the RYOBI brand.

What you will do

  • Design and own power electronics hardware for battery-powered products, including architectures, schematics, components, and design tradeoffs.
  • Develop and debug MOSFET switching power stages, gate-drive circuits, protection systems, current and voltage sensing, and power sequencing for 20–80V battery systems.
  • Support motor-control hardware such as inverter and bridge power stages, and collaborate with firmware engineers on hardware/firmware interfaces.
  • Prototype, test, and troubleshoot embedded electronics using oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, ESD/EMC tools, and data acquisition systems.
  • Lead schematic capture, PCB layout support, prototype builds, test-plan development, execution, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Track projects through schedules, metrics, and the stage-gate product development process while coordinating with cross-functional engineering stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing embedded electronics with strong hardware ownership, including 32-bit microcontroller-based circuits.
  • Demonstrated experience in power conversion and/or motor drives in embedded hardware implementations.
  • Practical knowledge of MOSFET switching, gate drives, switching behavior, and protection requirements in low-voltage battery systems.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools such as Altium or equivalent, including the ability to support occasional PCB layout work.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work in a cross-functional team with hardware, firmware, product development, and test engineers.
  • Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a fast-paced product development environment.
  • Apply structured stage-gate processes with accountability for schedules and project metrics.
  • Develop cordless products focused on performance, safety, productivity, and environmentally friendly technology.
