Software Engineer, Payments

Location: New York, New York, United States; San Francisco, California — hybrid. Employees based in hirify.global offices work onsite approximately 2–3 days per week or more depending on the role. Approved work from other locations requires a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection.

Annual cash compensation: $183,000–$200,000 in Denver and most remote locations; $222,000–$245,000 in San Francisco, Seattle, and New York.

What you will do

• Design, build, and test infrastructure for customizable Payments, Risk, and product experiences.
• Help scale a large Ruby/Rails and TypeScript/React application.
• Build platforms powering first-party and third-party products serving millions of businesses.
• Drive architectural decisions focused on scalability, modularity, and migration from existing systems to target architectures.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, Design, Data Science, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
• Mentor and develop engineers delivering scalable solutions.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience building fault-tolerant, mission-critical software and robust distributed systems using multiple general-purpose programming languages.
• Experience influencing multiple teams while scaling, refactoring, and optimizing legacy products.
• Experience architecting, building, and testing maintainable, structured, well-documented production code.
• Strong ability to clarify ambiguous problems, communicate technical complexity, and facilitate informed trade-offs.
• Experience in payments or accounting systems is highly preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React.
