TL;DR
Senior Engineer I, Mechanical, Projects (Refining Projects) (Fixed Equipment and Piping): Supporting the development and execution of refinery and petrochemical capital projects as the owner’s engineer, with an accent on mechanical design reviews, equipment and piping scope, fabrication, construction, and quality assurance. Focus on reviewing EPC and vendor deliverables, resolving field issues, managing mechanical risks and Management of Change, and coordinating safe, reliable, constructable project execution.

Location: Houston, TX, US; relocation to Houston is required. Travel up to 30% domestically to hirify.global plants, with potential international travel.

Base salary: $140,400–$171,600 annually.

What you will do

  • Serve as the owner’s engineer and mechanical project resource for fixed equipment and piping scope within refining capital projects.
  • Review project design bases, process and design conditions, specifications, materials selections, layouts, piping routing, and execution strategies.
  • Assess EPC, vendor, fabricator, and third-party engineering deliverables for technical adequacy, completeness, constructability, and compliance.
  • Support fabrication, inspection planning, quality hold points, field execution, technical issue resolution, and Management of Change activities.
  • Coordinate mechanical scope with inspection, corrosion, reliability, process safety, operations, maintenance, procurement, construction, and project management stakeholders.
  • Coach less experienced engineers and contribute to mechanical standards, work processes, lessons learned, scope, cost, and change management.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of petrochemical, refining, or related industry experience.
  • Experience with plant maintenance, operations, inspection, reliability, and project practices.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a TWIC card and hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong expertise in mechanical engineering for fixed equipment, piping, materials, fabrication, construction, and capital project execution.

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Experience influencing EPC contractors, vendors, and stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and practical problem-solving ability.
