TL;DR
Chemical Process Engineer (Oil & Gas Refinery) (Refining Operations and Process Optimization): Providing technical support for refinery units, troubleshooting operations, optimizing yields and energy efficiency, and developing capital projects with an accent on process simulation, advanced process control, and process safety. Focus on maintaining mass balances, leading management-of-change and incident investigations, coordinating catalyst programs, and supporting turnarounds and environmental compliance.

Location: Onsite in Carson, California, with an additional location in Wilmington, California; a 9/80 schedule, occasional after-hours support, and annual turnaround support are required.

Salary: $106,900–$184,300 per year.

What you will do

  • Provide daily technical support for assigned refinery units, including monitoring, troubleshooting, mass-balance maintenance, and operational problem solving.
  • Optimize yields, energy efficiency, reliability, catalyst performance, unit targets, and environmental performance.
  • Develop process design bases, project request forms, economic justifications, and process engineering support for small- to medium-sized capital projects.
  • Work with process controls specialists to develop and implement advanced process control applications.
  • Support start-ups, shutdowns, outages, turnarounds, catalyst loading, vessel inspections, and vendor chemical programs.
  • Lead or participate in process safety activities, management of change, environmental calculations, hazard evaluations, and incident investigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, completed before the start date.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Chemical or Process Engineer in the oil and gas refining industry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work onsite in the refinery on a 9/80 schedule, provide occasional after-hours support, and support an annual turnaround.
  • Ability to wear refinery PPE, perform field duties, pass a hair drug test and physical examination, maintain a valid driver’s license, and travel up to 5%.
