Co-op - Computational Lab (Systems Biology)

What you will do

• Research mathematical modeling approaches and add features to an in-silico lung model supporting drug development.
• Identify literature and public-repository data for training and validating mathematical models.
• Implement well-documented modeling and simulation code using version control systems.
• Model lung tissue mechanics, fluid dynamics, signaling pathways, and cell populations on tissue-engineered scaffolds.
• Apply statistical and machine learning methods to transcriptomics, proteomics, and other large-scale molecular data.
• Present research plans and results to the computational lab and company scientists.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in a science or engineering discipline.
• Available for a six-month co-op beginning in June/July 2026 or sooner, working 40 hours per week onsite in Silver Spring, MD.
• Experience with PDE-based fluid dynamics, ODE-based signaling models, agent-based modeling, bioinformatics, or machine learning, depending on the project.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, including R, Python, Julia, or Matlab.
• Strong writing, communication, teamwork, and self-motivation skills.
