TL;DR
Bioinformatics Scientist (AI): Developing and validating next-generation liquid biopsy assays and algorithms for oncology biomarker detection using NGS and multimodal data with an accent on machine learning, statistical modeling, and analytical performance. Focus on estimating circulating tumor DNA fractions, suppressing sequencing noise, distinguishing clonal hematopoiesis variants, and supporting regulatory submissions for clinically actionable pipelines.

Location: Redwood City, California, United States

Salary: $100,000–$140,000 per year; the range applies when the role is performed from California and may vary for Colorado, Illinois, and New York.

Company

hirify.global develops a proprietary precision medicine platform that connects real-world evidence with clinical insights to support treatment decisions.

What you will do

  • Develop, optimize, and analytically validate next-generation liquid biopsy assays and algorithms.
  • Build machine learning and statistical models to detect oncology biomarkers from NGS and multimodal data, including SNVs, indels, CNVs, rearrangements, MSI, and bTMB.
  • Estimate and track circulating tumor DNA fractions to support longitudinal treatment response monitoring.
  • Improve molecular barcoding, noise suppression, and error-correction strategies for low-frequency biomarker detection.
  • Design classifiers and filtering logic to distinguish clonal hematopoiesis variants from tumor-derived variants.
  • Collaborate with wet-lab scientists, medical directors, clinical scientists, biostatisticians, software engineers, and product managers to deliver production-scale clinical pipelines.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or a master's degree with 3+ years of industry experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, cancer biology, genetics, immunology, molecular biology, or computer science.
  • Advanced knowledge of tools and pipelines for processing, aligning, and analyzing multimodal NGS data, including DNA, RNA, and epigenetics.
  • Programming experience with Python and/or R, including data science and biological computing libraries.
  • Experience with AWS or GCP, Docker, and workflow management tools such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
  • Background in statistical modeling, predictive and prognostic algorithms, and machine learning.
  • Scientific publications or contributions to successful industry product development, along with strong communication skills.

Culture & Benefits

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration across research, clinical, engineering, and product functions.
  • Benefits may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical coverage, and other employee benefits.
  • Equal opportunity employment and consideration under applicable fair-chance employment laws.
