TL;DR
Senior Category Buyer (Marine): Developing and executing strategic sourcing initiatives for marine components and tooling with an accent on supplier partnerships, cost optimization, and cross-functional procurement. Location: Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, United States; hybrid workplace with occasional domestic and international travel of up to 25%

Salary: $86,500–$126,800 annually, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

  • Develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives aligned with category and business objectives.
  • Build supplier partnerships and lead supplier business reviews focused on performance and continuous improvement.
  • Lead requests for quotation, analyze supplier competitiveness, negotiate terms, and recommend sourcing decisions.
  • Identify cost optimization and value engineering opportunities through should-cost modeling and industry benchmarking.
  • Manage purchase requisitions, purchase orders, component tooling lifecycles, change requests, and commercial cost recovery.
  • Monitor supplier capacity, delivery performance, and supply-base risks while planning and executing mitigations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, operations management, supply chain, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, or supplier management.
  • Proven project management and cross-functional team leadership experience.
  • Strong negotiation, cost management, data analysis, communication, organization, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Proficiency with engineering prints and specifications, APQP, and PPAP processes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hydraulic components, marine propulsion components, raw materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in an OEM environment comparable to Mercury’s scale and requirements.
  • CPSM or CPIM certification.
  • Lean and Six Sigma certification and application experience.
