Principal AI Governance Architect (AI)

Location: Chicago, United States; flexible living locations across the US; ability to travel as needed

Salary: $190,000–$265,000 USD base annually; total estimated compensation including annual incentive compensation: $237,000–$357,000 USD

What you will do

• Translate security, privacy, compliance, and architecture requirements into executable controls for AI workloads.
• Define workload classification, identity, secrets, network, sandbox, logging, retention, redaction, approval-gate, and client-data-segregation patterns.
• Establish governed knowledge patterns covering authoritative sources, ingestion, indexing, metadata, access control, freshness, citations, and retrieval evaluation.
• Define audit evidence for model access, data movement, retrieval, tool calls, approvals, exceptions, and operational events.
• Implement retrieval-quality metrics, model evaluations, regression checks, telemetry, dashboards, and operational reporting with infrastructure engineers.
• Use AI tools to accelerate governance engineering, policy mapping, knowledge analysis, evaluation design, documentation, and evidence review.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience across cloud or platform security, governance engineering, security architecture, data engineering, observability, analytics engineering, ML evaluation, or AI application monitoring.
• Strong knowledge of identity, network controls, secrets management, logging, audit trails, data classification, least-privilege design, and evidence capture.
• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, vector stores, metadata, indexing, citation, access control, and knowledge-source quality.
• Ability to turn policy, risk, quality, and observability requirements into practical engineering controls and metrics.
• Strong software, data engineering, automation, or analytics engineering skills, along with strong documentation and communication abilities.
• Must be able to live across the US and travel as needed.

Nice to have

• AI governance, model risk management, LLM application security, agent security, or AI data-protection experience.
• Experience with Amazon Bedrock, AWS IAM, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, PrivateLink, KMS, VPC design, OpenSearch, vector databases, BI tools, or observability platforms.
• Experience with LLM, prompt, or retrieval evaluation, golden datasets, regression testing, or AI quality frameworks.
• Experience with Temporal or similar workflow orchestration platforms and enterprise knowledge systems.
• Experience working with PHI, PII, client-confidential, regulated, or other sensitive data.
