Senior Engineer III, Mechanical, Projects (Refining)

Location: Houston, Texas, United States; domestic travel to hirify.global plants of up to 30%, with potential international travel

Base salary: $180,900–$221,100 per year

What you will do

• Serve as owner’s engineer and senior technical resource for fixed equipment and piping scopes on refinery capital projects.
• Provide technical leadership across complex projects and identify mechanical, reliability, operability, cost, and schedule risks.
• Review and approve EPC, vendor, fabricator, design, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning deliverables.
• Resolve complex issues involving equipment design, metallurgy, corrosion, refractory, insulation, bolted joints, welding, inspection, repairs, and piping flexibility.
• Participate in design, model, constructability, HAZOP/PHA, and package approval reviews.
• Coach engineers and project teams while improving mechanical engineering standards, practices, and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; temporary visa holders and candidates requiring current or future sponsorship are not eligible.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field and at least 15 years of petrochemical, refining, or related industry experience.
• Deep expertise in fixed equipment and piping engineering, fabrication, materials, construction practices, and applicable industry codes.
• Experience with front-end loading, detailed design, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and Management of Change for capital projects.
• Ability to lead through influence, assess engineering work, communicate technical issues to business and technical audiences, and mentor others.
• Ability to obtain a TWIC card and possession of a valid driver’s license.

Nice to have

• Mechanical Engineering degree, Professional Engineer license, and owner/operator or EPC project execution experience.
• Experience with fixed equipment and piping design, repair, construction, welding, insulation, refractory, painting, coatings, or solids handling equipment.
• Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards and a record of mitigating mechanical risk early in project development.
