Senior Accountant (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid role based at the downtown Chicago office in the Merchandise Mart; in-office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

Salary: USD $75,000–$110,000 per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus.

What you will do

• Own complex operational accounting processes and month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis, and supporting documentation.
• Investigate accounting issues, unusual transactions, reconciliation differences, control exceptions, and process breakdowns with cross-functional stakeholders.
• Support the SOX control environment through documentation, execution, evidence retention, testing, remediation, and audit support.
• Drive automation, standardization, and process improvements across accounting workflows, including the use of AI for reconciliations, transaction review, exception identification, and variance analysis.
• Partner with Finance Systems, IT, and business stakeholders to design controlled, validated, and auditable systems and automation.
• Review work prepared by junior accountants, mentor staff, and contribute to system implementations and accounting transformation initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA preferred.
• 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of complex processes and month-end close responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience with process improvement, technology-enabled efficiency initiatives, advanced Excel, and ERP or close-management systems such as NetSuite, FloQast, or Workiva.
• Strong analytical, organizational, project management, communication, and prioritization skills.
• Experience reviewing accounting work, mentoring team members, and resolving issues with limited supervision.

• Public accounting, fintech, lending, financial services, or high-growth company experience.
• CPA certification.
