Heat Treat Lab Technician (Metallurgy)

Location: Onsite in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, United States

Salary: $54,300–$75,400 annually, plus an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

• Prepare metallographic samples and perform hardness testing, microstructural reviews, and metal chemistry verification.
• Analyze steel shot and thermal process charts to control heat treatment and metal finishing operations.
• Communicate with Heat Treat shop-floor operators and supervisors to support production priorities and proper part processing.
• Write laboratory instructions, maintain test and process records, and complete special non-production heat treat processes.
• Design and conduct laboratory experiments to improve plant heat treat processes.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, verify gauge calibration, and support training and project management for student co-ops.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• College-level coursework in chemistry, metallurgy, physics, or mathematics.
• Two to five years of laboratory experience, preferably in manufacturing or metal finishing.
• Knowledge of statistics, engineering principles, failure analysis, process equipment, and hazardous-material safety.
• Working knowledge of metallurgical laboratory techniques, instrumental analysis of metals and materials, mathematical calculations, and data handling.
• Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
