Senior Director, Data and AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote; the stated pay range applies to individuals hired to perform the role in the United States.

Salary: $230,720–$345,000 per year, plus incentive opportunity.

What you will do

• Define and execute the R&D strategy and roadmap for data engineering, AI, and generative AI capabilities.
• Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable data pipelines, architectures, and AI engineering foundations for structured, unstructured, and real-time R&D data.
• Oversee AI and Gen AI use cases from ideation through production deployment and application lifecycle management.
• Build and scale MLOps practices covering experimentation, deployment, monitoring, retraining, automation, and reproducibility.
• Lead a team of data engineers, AI/ML engineers, MLOps specialists, and application support professionals.
• Partner with R&D, IT, data science, governance, legal, compliance, and external vendors to deliver reliable and compliant data and AI products.

Requirements

• 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in data engineering, AI/ML, and Gen AI, including at least 5 years in senior technical leadership or management.
• Deep expertise in data engineering, data representation, generative AI, machine learning, and AI/ML solution architecture.
• Experience building and maintaining large-scale data and AI solutions in scientific, regulated, or research-heavy environments.
• Proven experience deploying generative AI and large language model applications in production.
• Expertise with real-world data assets and scientific evidence generation, preferably in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences R&D.
• Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, statistics, or a related scientific discipline; PhD strongly preferred.
