Principal AI Engineer (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Own the applied AI and ML strategy, determining how AI integrates across mental healthcare platforms.
• Build and optimize production-grade recommendation engines, search ranking, and patient-provider matching systems.
• Develop and fine-tune models including Learning-to-Rank, embeddings, and LLMs.
• Design scalable AI architectures and core ML infrastructure to support clinical workflows.
• Act as a technical multiplier, unblocking complex engineering problems and setting standards for AI safety.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States (excluding Hawaii).
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 7+ years in distributed systems and 5+ years in production-grade ML.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with search, ranking, and recommendation engines at scale.
• 5+ years of programming experience in Python and at least one backend language (TypeScript, Java, or Go).
• 2+ years of experience building AI products using foundation models and LLM integration patterns like RAG.
• 3+ years of experience with MLOps, data pipelines, and rigorous evaluation systems.

Nice to have

• Experience architecting secure and compliant AI solutions in regulated environments (HIPAA, GDPR).
• Familiarity with human-in-the-loop systems and clinical decision support frameworks.
• Experience designing evaluation pipelines for human alignment and model interpretability.
• Contributions to open-source AI frameworks or applied research.
