Engineer Intern - Software (Summer 2027)

Location: Greenville, Wisconsin, United States

Pay range: $18.00–$37.00 per hour

Company

Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh company, designs and builds customized fire and emergency vehicles, including pumpers, aerials, tankers, and rescue units.

What you will do

• Write quality, maintainable, object-oriented C++ software for vehicle systems.
• Develop and maintain PC programs used to configure truck-specific programming.
• Design, develop, and test reliable vehicle control software and system programming.
• Troubleshoot and reprogram vehicle systems while helping identify and control operational and maintenance risks.
• Prepare and maintain software documentation for truck configuration programs.
• Participate in peer reviews and other engineering activities.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong academic record with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Nice to have

• Experience with C, C++, or a similar programming language.
• Experience writing embedded applications for microcontrollers.
• Experience with Controller Area Network (CAN) and the J1939 protocol.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and quality focus.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and adapt to changing needs and deadlines.
