Staff Engineer - Embedded Software (C/C++)

Location: Hybrid, with 2–3 days per week onsite in Kohler, Wisconsin, United States

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for microcontroller-based control systems using C and C++.
• Develop networking and application code for wireless processors supporting Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ISM, and LTE communications.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams on software requirements and system architecture.
• Oversee unit testing, integration testing, system validation, regression testing, board bring-up, and end-of-line production testing.
• Lead code reviews, document software architecture and implementation, and troubleshoot hardware and controller software using diagnostic tools.
• Break down software scopes, develop project timelines and budgets, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Computer Engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 6+ years of experience, depending on educational background.
• Experience developing embedded software with layered architectures and embedded operating systems such as QNX, Keil RTX, or ZephyrOS.
• Proficiency in C and C++, including object-oriented programming and generally accepted code structures.
• Hands-on experience with RS-485/Modbus, SAE J1939 CAN, Ethernet, and USB protocols.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Vector CANalyzer, CANape, CANoe, Keil debuggers, and ARM processor emulators.
• Experience with wireless certification for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and ISM products.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink model-based code development and integration.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate independently and across diverse audiences.
