Engineer I - Embedded Software Engineer (Embedded Systems): Designing and testing embedded software for real-time control systems powering intelligent off-highway equipment with an accent on C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, HMI development, and CAN communication. Focus on integrating control systems, building safety-critical software, troubleshooting physical equipment, and applying CI/CD and functional safety practices.
Location: Hybrid role based at Plant 7 West Segment Office in Pella, Iowa, USA. Occasional travel is expected.

What you will do
- Design, develop, and test embedded software for real-time control systems using C, C++, and MATLAB/Simulink.
- Translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements and implement embedded control solutions with cross-functional teams.
- Develop Human-Machine Interfaces and user experiences for embedded control systems.
- Integrate and validate systems using CAN protocols such as SAE J1939 and serial communication standards.
- Support rapid prototyping and iterative Agile development with CI/CD, Git, and GitHub.
- Contribute to safety-critical software development and perform hands-on troubleshooting, testing, and analysis on physical equipment in lab or field environments.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, agricultural engineering, or a related field with an embedded systems focus, or equivalent education and experience.
- Experience or coursework in embedded programming with C, C++, and MATLAB/Simulink.
- Understanding of control system theory, including electrical and electro-hydraulic control architectures.
- Familiarity with HMI or UI/UX development for embedded systems.
- Knowledge of CAN, SAE J1939, serial communication, and RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS or VxWorks.
- Awareness of Agile development, functional safety standards such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508, and PLM/ECN systems such as Dassault Systèmes 3DX.
