Senior Commissioning Engineer (HV/BESS/PV)

Location: Remote within the United States; approximately 20–30% travel and active participation in field operations required.

Salary: $142,603–$178,254 per year.

What you will do

• Lead testing, commissioning, and initial energization activities for high-voltage substations, BESS, and photovoltaic facilities.
• Develop and approve testing and commissioning plans, energization procedures, switching procedures, technical reports, and turnover packages.
• Review protection and control philosophies, relay settings, commissioning strategies, test results, and acceptance documentation.
• Perform high-voltage switching, coordinate field readiness, support post-energization operations, and provide technical assistance during site events.
• Lead equipment failure and post-trip investigations, document root causes, recommend corrective actions, and verify return-to-service readiness.
• Supervise, mentor, evaluate, and coordinate the workload of Commissioning Engineers across multiple projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience, with at least 10 years of testing, commissioning, and initial energization experience on utility-scale electrical facilities.
• At least 5 years leading complex commissioning and energization activities, including high-voltage switching and work with energized electrical systems.
• At least 2 years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience.
• Expertise in power system protection, control systems, relay testing, electrical system analysis, power quality, harmonic analysis, and utility interconnection requirements.
• PE license or ability to obtain one; NETA Level II, III, or IV certification required.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future. Compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and utility switching and clearance procedures is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with SEL, GE, ABB, Schweitzer, or comparable protection systems.
• Experience with harmonic analyzers, power quality monitoring equipment, protection coordination studies, relay settings, and NERC/FERC compliance requirements.
