TL;DR
Environmental Scientist 1 (Environmental Permitting): Supporting utility clients with construction stormwater, floodplain, wetland, right-of-way, and wildlife permitting and compliance with an accent on regulatory review, site inspections, and technical documentation. Focus on coordinating permitting submittals, reviewing engineering packages, developing permitting schedules, and managing environmental deliverables across changing project scopes.

Location: Colorado, United States; preferred base in Fort Collins. Hybrid work is expected, with approximately 2–3 days per week in the office; occasional site visits are required across Colorado.

Salary: $54,910–$71,060 per year.

What you will do

  • Support utility clients with construction stormwater management permitting and compliance.
  • Review inspection reports, engineering design packages, regulations, and project documentation for permitting compliance.
  • Conduct pre-construction and post-construction site visits, including field coordination and documentation.
  • Develop permitting matrices, timelines, figures, and map sets with GIS and CAD staff.
  • Coordinate with clients, permitting agencies, project managers, and internal specialists.
  • Manage permitting submittals, deliverable production, file management, and distribution through jurisdictional portals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or a closely related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience, including local or federal permitting or agency review processes.
  • Knowledge of wetland delineation, field investigation techniques, hydrology, topographic maps, erosion, and sediment transport.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including technical reports, agency correspondence, and permit applications.
  • Experience with MS Office; experience with Bluebeam, GIS, or CAD drafting is preferred.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to drive throughout the state are required.

Nice to have

  • Experience working on active construction sites.
  • Experience coordinating wildlife biologists, land agents, public outreach, CAD, or GIS resources.
