Senior Metrology Engineer (Manufacturing)

Location: Bristol, RI, United States; onsite in the machine shop

What you will do

• Develop inspection plans for complex machined parts, including First Article Inspections and production sampling strategies.
• Inspect in-house and outsourced components using CMMs and a wide range of measurement systems.
• Program and operate CMM equipment and define repeatable measurement methods for tight-tolerance features.
• Review engineering drawings for tolerance stack risks, GD&T issues, and manufacturability concerns, providing guidance to mechanical engineering.
• Define in-process inspection requirements, train CNC operators, and resolve sources of shop-floor variation.
• Build machining-focused quality processes covering gauge control, inspection frequency, documentation, and non-conformance analysis.

Requirements

• Expertise in GD&T applied to shop-floor inspection and machining.
• Experience programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines.
• Extensive experience with precision-machined components and tight-tolerance hardware.
• Hands-on experience with a broad range of measurement tools and engineering drawings.
• Experience defining, scaling, or improving inspection processes for production.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including direct collaboration with machinists on inspection and process controls.

Nice to have

• Experience with Zeiss CMMs and Calypso software.
• Familiarity with multi-axis CNC machining.
• Experience evaluating supplier First Article Inspections and working with procurement or supply chain teams on quality issues.
• Experience bridging mechanical engineering and manufacturing teams.
