Staff Systems Engineer (Life Sciences)

Salary: $132,400–$217,600 per year

What you will do

• Lead system-level engineering deliverables for new and existing analytical instruments.
• Develop requirements, integrate mechanical, electrical, optical, and software subsystems, and support system controls through scripting.
• Plan and execute system verification and validation testing, summarize results, and report critical findings.
• Automate prototype testing and perform data mining, statistical analysis, characterization, and troubleshooting.
• Support manufacturing and field teams with sustaining activities, process development, and design transfer.
• Lead technical core teams, collaborate across functions, and coach junior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant field with 10+ years of experience, or a master's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• 10+ years of experience developing and integrating complex instruments, systems, or hardware consumables.
• Experience with multidisciplinary systems combining mechanical, electrical, optical, and software components.
• Experience defining system-level requirements, preparing test plans, executing V&V testing, and reporting results.
• Experience with automation or data-analysis software such as Python, LabVIEW, PLC, or Java.
• Ability to work in San Jose, California, United States and collaborate with marketing, quality, manufacturing, and field support functions.

Nice to have

• Hardware automation experience.
• CAD and mechanical design experience with SolidWorks.
• Experience handling reagents in a wet-lab environment.
• Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems and engineering statistical data analysis.
