Principal Systems Engineer, Digital Lab Systems

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid 70/30 work model with 70% in-office collaboration.

Salary: $145,900–$234,200 per year, with potential eligibility for a discretionary bonus, incentive compensation, or equity award.

What you will do

• Lead laboratory automation initiatives across QC testing and sample management operations.
• Design, develop, deploy, and optimize automated QC assay workflows using Hamilton liquid handling platforms, including VENUS and CTU systems.
• Translate manual laboratory workflows into scalable, high-throughput automated systems and coordinate integrated automation deployments.
• Build data structures, pipelines, workflow architectures, and integrations between instruments, automation systems, LIMS, and enterprise applications.
• Support commissioning, qualification, validation, maintenance, troubleshooting, deviation investigations, and lifecycle management for laboratory automation and biobanking systems.
• Act as system owner, work with vendors, mentor engineers, and train laboratory personnel on automation platforms and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, biotechnology, robotics, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in laboratory automation or robotics, including liquid handling systems and automation platforms.
• Experience with Hamilton platforms, including VENUS and BiOS.
• Programming experience in Python, Java, C++, or a similar language, plus data structures, database design, and LIMS integration.
• Experience with REST or SOAP web services, APIs, middleware, distributed systems, Git, and Agile methodologies.
• Experience in regulated environments and validated laboratory operations, including GCP, GLP, or ISO standards; strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
