Environmental Project Manager (Environmental Planning and Permitting): Leading environmental planning, permitting, technical studies, and project delivery for transportation, airports, maritime ports, renewable energy, resiliency, and sustainable design projects with an accent on NEPA, SEQRA, CEQR, agency coordination, and multidisciplinary team leadership. Focus on managing budgets, schedules, quality, subcontractors, client relationships, and complex environmental assessments across New York and New Jersey.

Expected annual compensation: $143,413–$204,875

What you will do

  • Support the Environmental Sciences & Planning Lead for New York/New Jersey as Deputy Manager and help oversee project delivery.
  • Lead environmental planning, permitting, and technical studies for transportation, airports, maritime ports, renewable energy, resiliency, and sustainable design projects.
  • Direct NEPA, SEQRA, and CEQR reviews and oversee studies covering water, flood resiliency, hazardous materials, noise and vibration, air quality, biological and historic resources, visual resources, parks, land use, and community impacts.
  • Prepare and review technical studies, environmental documents, permit applications, and related reports.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, public participation, federal and state agencies, clients, and subcontractors.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, quality, staff, client relationships, proposals, and business development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • At least 7 years of related experience, including a minimum of 2 years of project management experience.
  • Experience with environmental planning and permitting, NEPA, SEQRA, CEQR, technical studies, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience coordinating with design teams, clients, multidisciplinary technical teams, and government agencies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, technical writing, and visualization skills.
  • Local residence in the New York/New Jersey area is preferred.

Nice to have

  • Experience with federal water programs, coastal projects, and renewable energy permitting and planning in New York/New Jersey.
  • Previous experience with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and NYSDEC.
  • Master's degree in a related field and previous consulting experience.
  • Engineering or planning certification, Professional Engineering License, AICP, LEED, PWS, or another relevant certification.
