TL;DR
Senior Trail Civil Engineer/Project Manager (Trail Design/Transportation): Leading trail, greenway, bike and pedestrian, outdoor recreation, and multimodal transportation projects from planning through permitting, construction documents, and implementation with an accent on sustainable, accessible, constructible, and context-sensitive design. Focus on managing scope, schedules, budgets, quality, client coordination, public-sector relationships, and multidisciplinary project delivery.

Location: Denver, Colorado; the role may also be based in Arizona or another strategic hirify.global location, with hybrid or remote flexibility considered. Employees must reside in an eligible U.S. state and be authorized to work for any U.S. employer without current or future visa sponsorship. hirify.global is currently unable to hire employees residing in Alaska, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, or Puerto Rico.

Base compensation: $120,000–$150,000 annually, based on skills and experience.

What you will do

  • Lead trail, greenway, bike and pedestrian, outdoor recreation, and multimodal transportation projects from early planning through design, permitting, construction documents, and implementation.
  • Develop sustainable, context-sensitive, and constructible trail solutions addressing user experience, accessibility, durability, cost, and long-term maintenance.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, quality, client communication, and consultant coordination.
  • Advise public agencies, parks and recreation departments, land managers, tribal communities, conservancy organizations, and community partners.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, landscape architects, environmental scientists, surveyors, construction professionals, and communication specialists.
  • Support business development, proposals, client relationships, market growth, and mentoring of junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, landscape architecture, planning, environmental design, recreation planning, or a related field.
  • Professional licensure or certification such as PE, PLA, AICP, PMP, or the ability to obtain an applicable credential.
  • Significant experience leading trail, greenway, bike and pedestrian, outdoor recreation, or active transportation projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of alignment development, grading, drainage, accessibility, constructability, permitting, cost estimating, and construction documentation.
  • Experience with public-sector clients, land management agencies, community stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • U.S. work authorization without current or future visa sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

  • Ten or more years of experience in trail planning, trail design, outdoor recreation, active transportation, parks, open space, or related public infrastructure.
  • At least five years of project management experience leading multidisciplinary trail, recreation, civil, or transportation projects.
  • Experience with natural-surface trails, paved shared-use paths, mountain bike facilities, river corridors, trailheads, parks, wayfinding, and accessibility improvements.
  • Knowledge of erosion control, stormwater management, environmental permitting, public engagement, and construction-phase services.
  • Familiarity with Colorado, Arizona, the Mountain West, or other regional trail and recreation markets, plus willingness to travel as needed.
