Operations Manager (Analytical Chemistry): Leading technical control and analytical laboratory operations for LC, GC, pesticide residue testing, method development, and validated testing with an accent on ISO/IEC 17025 compliance, SANAS requirements, and technical signatory capability. Focus on developing and validating methods, troubleshooting instrumentation and analytical workflows, strengthening quality systems, and building analyst competence and succession.
Location: Onsite in Westlake, Cape Town, South Africa

What you will do
- Lead technical control for LC, GC, pesticide residue testing, sample preparation, and related analytical workflows.
- Develop, optimise, modify, validate, document, and approve analytical methods before implementation.
- Monitor analytical accuracy, quality-control performance, calibration, reference materials, records, and result-review evidence.
- Support audits, technical investigations, nonconforming work reviews, complaints, proficiency testing failures, and corrective actions.
- Provide technical input on instrumentation, capacity, workflows, method limitations, quotations, tenders, and new service offerings.
- Supervise, coach, train, and develop analysts and senior analysts while building technical signatory succession.
Requirements
- BSc, BTech, MSc, or equivalent qualification in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Natural Sciences, or a related discipline.
- 7–10 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in pesticide residue analysis, food testing, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC, or LC analysis.
- 3–5 years of experience supervising analysts or leading technical workstreams.
- Experience with method development, validation, troubleshooting, quality control, result review, and technical reporting.
- Knowledge of SANAS, ISO/IEC 17025, MRL testing, export food testing, and accredited laboratory systems.
- Code 8 driver’s licence; strong scientific judgement, data integrity, communication, and analyst-development skills.
Nice to have
- Formal training in ISO/IEC 17025, method validation, measurement uncertainty, quality control, and technical signatory requirements.
- Experience as a technical signatory, deputy technical signatory, or section technical lead.
