Director of Finance and Accounting

Location: Based in the Tokyo studio, Japan; responsible for finance operations across the Tokyo and Palo Alto studios.

What you will do

• Lead financial planning, accounting, and tax operations for the Tokyo and Palo Alto studios and Moon Creative Ventures.
• Direct treasury functions covering cash flow, expenses, investments, and financial performance.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling for business decisions and strategic initiatives.
• Manage financial reporting to the Moon Board and Mitsui, including performance and projection updates.
• Maintain regulatory compliance, internal controls, audit processes, and financial risk management.
• Lead and develop the Finance Team while promoting accountability and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience; CPA preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, or financial control.
• Strong knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
• Strong understanding of JGAAP and IFRS.
• Experience with Freee, QuickBooks, Expensify, or comparable accounting and expense-management software.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in Japanese, together with strong analytical, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

• Business-level English skills.
• CPA certification in the US or Japan.
