TL;DR
Director of Trade Compliance (Import/Export Compliance): Leading and managing a global trade compliance program for a multinational industrial gases and chemicals organization with an accent on regulatory governance, product classification, training, and risk assessment. Focus on strengthening import/export controls, managing customs brokers and regulatory disclosures, and implementing technology and reporting systems across business units and international affiliates.

Location: Remote position associated with Houston, Texas, United States

Salary: $155,000–$180,000 per year plus bonus opportunity

What you will do

  • Lead the strategic direction, implementation, and continuous improvement of the global trade compliance program across business units and foreign affiliates.
  • Develop policies, procedures, training programs, and tracking systems for import and export compliance.
  • Oversee HTS and ECCN product classification, trade controls governance, risk assessments, reporting, and compliance recordkeeping.
  • Manage customs brokers, freight forwarders, powers of attorney, standard operating procedures, and filing accuracy.
  • Support regulatory inquiries, violations, penalty notices, and voluntary self-disclosures in coordination with legal counsel and international trade leadership.
  • Advise senior management on compliance gaps, technology investments, global trade management systems, and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, law, or international trade.
  • 10+ years of progressive import and export compliance experience in a multinational organization.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining trade compliance programs, including policies, training, controls, and procedures.
  • Deep knowledge of Incoterms, Export Administration Regulations, ITAR, Customs Regulations, HTS and ECCN classification, free trade agreements, country-of-origin rules, and anti-corruption requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with BIS, U.S. Customs, OFAC, corresponding EU regulatory agencies, restricted-party screening, export licensing, deemed exports, and compliance reporting.
  • Proven leadership experience managing employees and cross-functional projects.

Nice to have

  • CUSECO, CES, LCB, or equivalent import/export certification.
  • Experience with Oracle or SAP.
  • Advanced degree.
