TL;DR
Engineering Design Group Manager - Instrument Panel and Floor Console (IPFC) System (Automotive): Leading engineering designers and technical specialists delivering instrument panel and floor console designs for vehicle programs with an accent on technical leadership, product development, and design-release activities. Focus on staffing and developing the team, managing math development, resolving engineering roadblocks, and balancing competing technical priorities.

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan, United States; on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. Travel required up to 25%. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

  • Lead a large group of Interior Engineering Designers and DLTs/Design TSs supporting Instrument Panel and Floor Console vehicle programs.
  • Provide technical leadership and guide teams toward successful execution with strong engineering solutions.
  • Manage staffing, workload prioritization, employee development, performance evaluation, recognition, and compensation planning.
  • Develop processes, standards, and operational plans aligned with business and program objectives.
  • Manage the math development process, remove roadblocks, and resolve complex engineering issues.
  • Communicate policies, procedures, priorities, initiatives, and safety messages through group meetings and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology.
  • At least 8 years of design experience, including leadership experience.
  • Experience with product development and design/release activities.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering systems and processes, including GxDP, GSTS, VIS Mock-up, GPDS, GD&T, specifications, Global BOM, and engineering release systems.
  • Experience leading teams, mentoring employees, and proposing technical alternatives to balance competing priorities.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future GM immigration sponsorship. A valid ability to regularly operate a motor vehicle is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience in Seating and Interior Trim Design.
  • Experience with NX and Teamcenter.
  • Experience in Design/Release engineering.
  • Knowledge of GM policies and procedures.
