Medical Coding Specialist (Oncology)

What you will do

• Review visits, diagnoses, radiation oncology, and surgical charges for accurate coding and leveling.
• Enter charges into electronic medical record and practice management systems.
• Audit physician, nurse practitioner, and clinical oncology documentation for CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifier accuracy.
• Compile, organize, and review chart documentation for payer and third-party audit requests.
• Analyze complex coding and documentation issues, recommend resolutions, and support physician coding compliance projects.
• Prepare audit results and coding compliance reports and communicate findings to practice leadership.

Requirements

• CPC, CCS-P, or another professional coding certification required.
• At least 2 years of experience performing chart audits or assigning CPT and ICD-10 codes through documentation review in a physician practice or hospital environment.
• Four or more years of coding experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical oncology, radiation, and surgery coding and leveling highly preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS, anatomy, medical terminology, Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, payer websites, databases, patient scheduling tools, EMR, and other medical information systems.
