GYN Clinic Coding Specialist (Oncology)

Location: Hybrid remote; based in Texas, with work supporting the Central Business Office at 3001 E President George Bush Hwy, Richardson, TX 75082. Monday–Friday.

What you will do

• Abstract clinical and demographic information from medical records and assign ICD-9 and CPT-4 codes.
• Identify principal and secondary diagnoses in accordance with national coding and reimbursement standards.
• Record diagnostic procedures and determine the required medical information.
• Request clarification from physicians when diagnoses or other information are missing from records.
• Update coding procedures and guidelines while coordinating medical information and patient charts with medical assistants and other staff.
• Maintain patient medical-record confidentiality and support the compliance program.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a medical record technology course.
• At least one year of medical coding experience; three years is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical-record coding procedures and ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems.
• Must live in the state of Texas and be able to work in the hybrid arrangement.
• Applicable coding certification is preferred.
• For the senior level: medical terminology coursework, at least five years of medical coding experience, and RHIT certification are preferred; oncology experience is also preferred.
