Medical Coding Education Associate (Medical Coding)

Location: Hybrid role requiring in-office work 1–2 days per week within commuting distance of offices in Norfolk, Virginia, or Lake Mary, Florida; candidates outside a reasonable commuting distance will not be considered unless legally required accommodation is granted.

Salary: $55,100–$100,050 per year for positions based in Virginia.

What you will do

• Review medical records and documentation to validate accurate code assignment and confirm that documentation supports the level of service provided.
• Analyze claims data to develop relevant medical coding education concepts.
• Research coding and billing issues, regulatory changes, trends, and industry standards.
• Collaborate with providers and internal and external stakeholders on coding and documentation guidelines.
• Launch education concepts and conduct chart reviews.
• Provide providers with feedback on current-year coding guidelines and documentation requirements by phone and email.

Requirements

• AA/AS degree and at least four years of experience working with ICD-9/10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Current, valid, active, and unrestricted RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CPC certification.
• Strong oral and written communication, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects in a demanding work environment and demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Nice to have

• Experience in health insurance reimbursement, medical billing, medical coding, auditing, or health data analytics.
• Experience with Microsoft Access.
