Senior Substation Engineer

Location: Lakewood, Colorado, United States

Salary: USD 101,504–140,000 per year, plus potential participation in an annual discretionary bonus program.

What you will do

• Lead proposals, scope development, conceptual designs, execution plans, cost estimates, and project schedules.
• Develop physical substation designs, including yard layouts, plans, sections, details, grounding, lightning protection, control buildings, raceways, auxiliary AC/DC systems, and bills of material.
• Prepare engineering calculations, studies, reports, and equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing.
• Coordinate design activities with civil and structural, network, transmission line, and other engineering departments.
• Review the quality of engineering and design work, improve processes and tools, and provide leadership, training, and mentoring.
• Meet with clients, support business development, and provide short-term field support during construction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• At least 5 years of related experience; a related master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Professional Engineer registration is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with the National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to solve difficult problems by adapting and modifying standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Nice to have

• Experience with relay settings or 3D modeling and design.
• Participation in industry or professional technical committees.
