TL;DR
Environmental Planner II (Environmental Planning): Preparing and managing environmental planning, documentation, and permitting projects throughout Hawaiʻi with an accent on HRS Chapter 343, NEPA, land-use analysis, and regulatory coordination. Focus on evaluating project impacts, developing mitigation measures, leading multidisciplinary assignments, and supporting public involvement and agency consultation.

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii, United States; requires travel within Hawaiʻi and occasionally to other locations as project needs require.

Salary: $81,000–$115,000 per year

What you will do

  • Prepare environmental review documents under Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes Chapter 343, NEPA, and other applicable requirements.
  • Conduct environmental and land-use research, evaluate project impacts, and develop avoidance, minimization, and mitigation measures.
  • Prepare environmental assessments, impact statements, permit applications, planning studies, technical reports, and land-use deliverables.
  • Coordinate biological, cultural, archaeological, engineering, and other technical specialists and integrate their findings.
  • Support permitting, agency consultation, public meetings, stakeholder coordination, and responses to public comments.
  • Lead or support environmental planning assignments by managing schedules, budgets, deliverables, quality reviews, proposals, and multidisciplinary coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, urban and regional planning, environmental science, geography, natural resources, or a closely related field.
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in environmental planning, documentation, permitting, or regulatory compliance.
  • Experience preparing or substantially contributing to environmental review documents and evaluating environmental impacts.
  • Knowledge of environmental permitting processes and regulatory agency coordination.
  • Strong technical writing, research, organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, ability to manage multiple deadlines, and experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, urban and regional planning, or a related field.
  • Experience with Hawaiʻi planning, land-use, permitting, cultural, biological, archaeological, and community requirements.
  • Experience with federal environmental requirements, GIS, Microsoft Project, technical graphics, and document production.
  • AICP certification or another relevant professional certification.
