Inpatient Coding Auditor (Healthcare)

Location: Remote within the United States; Chicago – 550 Van Buren listed as the position location. Current permanent United States work authorization and a United States day shift schedule are required.

Pay: $38.46–$52.40 per hour.

What you will do

• Audit inpatient coders and offshore inpatient coding auditors against client procedures and accuracy standards.
• Perform quality checks, calibration audits, and audits of inpatient hospital accounts.
• Review health records and clinical documentation to validate diagnosis and procedure codes, MS-DRGs, APR DRGs, POA, SOI, and ROM assignments.
• Identify coding errors, HACs, PSIs, and documentation issues that may affect quality data, reimbursement, or denials.
• Provide feedback, coordinate calibration sessions, and support client and internal stakeholder meetings.
• Analyze audit results and present clear, concise, actionable findings to leadership.

Requirements

• Current permanent United States work authorization required.
• Availability for a United States day shift schedule required.
• At least 2 years of experience as an inpatient coding auditor and 3 years of experience coding inpatient hospital accounts.
• One of the following certifications required: CCS, CIC, or CDIP.
• Strong knowledge of clinical documentation guidelines, coding and reimbursement regulations, compliant coder query practices, and revenue cycle processes.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, analytical ability, attention to detail, organization, communication skills, and independent judgment.

Nice to have

• AHIMA Auditing: Inpatient Coding microcredential or RHIA certification.
• Experience with 3M/Solventum, Encoder Pro, or Codify encoder software.
• Experience with Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
• Experience working with data from multiple sources and financial analysis.
