Underwriter Credit & Surety Reinsurance

Location: Frankfurt, Germany; hybrid work arrangement

Base salary: €71,000–€118,000 gross annually for a full-time role, plus performance-based variable compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Assess and underwrite treaty and facultative credit, surety, and political risk reinsurance opportunities.
• Evaluate risk profiles, exposures, expected profitability, and appropriate costing.
• Prepare underwriting analyses and recommendations aligned with risk appetite, guidelines, and governance requirements.
• Negotiate reinsurance terms and conditions with clients and brokers.
• Own selected risks and accounts and make recommendations within the applicable authority framework.
• Monitor market developments and portfolio performance while collaborating with Client Markets, Credit Risk Management, Claims, Contracts, Business Services, and Finance.

Requirements

• Academic background in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Law, or a related discipline.
• Around three years of experience in underwriting, credit risk, or another role involving financial, commercial, or legal risk assessment; strong academic candidates are also considered.
• Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with an understanding of or demonstrated interest in credit risk, financial analysis, and underwriting.
• Ability to structure complex information, identify key risk drivers, and communicate conclusions clearly.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills across teams, functions, and cultures.
• Proficient English with strong written and verbal communication skills, plus willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and industry events.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Credit & Surety insurance or reinsurance, or credit risk management.
• Legal experience in commercial, banking, finance, insurance, insolvency, or contract law.
• Knowledge of financial statements and credit analysis.
• Familiarity with European insurance or financial services markets.
• Additional European language skills.
