Senior AI Engineer (Healthcare)

Location: New York, NY; hybrid schedule with three days per week in the office and remaining days remote. Candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a commutable distance from one of the talent markets.

Salary: $141,100–$194,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus incentive plan.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and operate full-stack AI applications, including frontend experiences, APIs, backend services, and data pipelines.
• Build LLM workflows for extraction, classification, retrieval, summarization, agentic processes, structured outputs, tool calling, and fallback handling.
• Develop RAG systems with embeddings, vector databases, semantic search, and document-processing pipelines using OCR, ingestion, indexing, and metadata extraction.
• Create evaluation frameworks with benchmark datasets, regression testing, quality metrics, and human-in-the-loop review workflows for clinicians and domain experts.
• Optimize production systems for accuracy, latency, reliability, scalability, cost efficiency, observability, and incident response.
• Deploy cloud-native services with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD while collaborating with product, engineering, clinical, and operational stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience building and operating production software systems.
• Experience with backend services, APIs, distributed systems, or data-intensive applications.
• Production experience integrating LLMs through structured outputs, tool calling, RAG, agents, or multi-step workflows, using platforms such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Azure AI, or AWS Bedrock.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or TypeScript/JavaScript, plus experience debugging, monitoring, and supporting production applications.
• Ability to work three days per week from the New York office or a commutable talent-market location.

Nice to have

• Experience with agentic architecture, Model Context Protocol, tool orchestration, autonomous workflows, or AI evaluation and tracing.
• Experience with React, Next.js, full-stack architecture, Kubernetes, Docker, cloud environments, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
• Experience in regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, or government.
• Familiarity with privacy, compliance, governance, data protection, and AI-assisted development tools.
