Senior Spectroscopy Scientist (NMR)

Location: Groton, Connecticut, USA; candidates should live within commuting distance.

Salary: USD 33.75–38.50 per hour.

What you will do

• Apply solid-state NMR to characterize crystalline and non-crystalline pharmaceutical materials, APIs, excipients, intermediates, and drug products.
• Use quantitative solid-state NMR methods to measure components of APIs and drug products.
• Plan and perform experiments with minimal supervision and interpret 1D and 2D spectra.
• Collaborate with Materials Science colleagues to define and implement characterization strategies.
• Solve scientific problems and contribute to new approaches and knowledge within the Materials Science organization.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in the electronic laboratory notebook according to good laboratory practices.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in chemistry or an equivalent field with ssNMR expertise, or a B.A./M.S. in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field with 2–3+ years of ssNMR experience.
• Experience with ssNMR sample preparation, data acquisition, and interpretation of 1D and 2D spectra.
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry, along with strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Strong organizational skills, independent working ability, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Authorization to work indefinitely in the United States without restriction or sponsorship is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with solid-state characterization methods such as X-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and thermogravimetric analysis.
• Experience and understanding of vibrational spectroscopy, including FTIR, NIR, or FT-Raman.
• Interest in learning new technologies and concepts.
