Senior Scientist – Pharmaceutical Materials Scientist

Location: Groton, Connecticut, USA; candidates should live within a commutable distance. Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; weekend, overtime, and holiday work may be required based on business needs.

Compensation: USD 33.75–38.50 per hour

What you will do

• Conduct advanced solid-state characterization of large beyond Rule-of-5 pharmaceutical molecules, including PROTACs, RIPTACs, and molecular glues.
• Apply novel crystallization techniques to recrystallize complex molecules.
• Define and implement crystallization, polymorph, salt, and co-crystal screening activities according to project timelines.
• Collaborate with Medicinal Chemistry, Formulation, and Biopharmaceutics teams on screening and characterization strategies for clinical solid-form selection.
• Solve materials science problems using contemporary experimental techniques and contribute to new scientific approaches.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous entries in the electronic laboratory notebook.

Requirements

• Master’s degree with at least 2 years of experience, or a PhD, in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with pharmaceutical solid-state characterization, including X-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and spectroscopy.
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills, including experience with FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman, and/or SSNMR.
• Experience solving materials science problems involving large molecules, solid-state chemistry, and particle characterization.
• Experience with amorphous solid dispersion strategies, innovative solid-form screening, and mathematical modeling.
• Good knowledge of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry, with strong organization, independent working ability, and oral and written communication skills.
