Scientist, Solid-State Characterization (Pharmaceutical Materials Science)

Location: Groton, CT, USA; candidates must be within a commutable distance. Full-time, onsite laboratory position, Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm; weekend, overtime, and holiday work may be required based on business needs.

Compensation: USD 25–30.5 per hour

What you will do

• Conduct solid-state characterization of pharmaceutical small molecules using X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, moisture sorption, microscopy, and spectroscopy.
• Support crystallization, polymorph, salt, and co-crystal screening activities within multidisciplinary project teams.
• Perform particle and surface characterization of pharmaceutical powders, including particle size, shape, surface energy, and surface roughness analysis.
• Collaborate with Medicinal Chemistry, Formulation, and Biopharmaceutics colleagues on screening and characterization strategies for clinical solid-form selection.
• Solve Materials Science problems using contemporary experimental techniques and contribute to new scientific approaches.
• Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in the electronic laboratory notebook system.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience, or a master’s degree or PhD in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with solid-state characterization techniques and strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Experience solving Materials Science problems involving solid-state chemistry and particle characterization.
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
• Good organizational skills, ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work onsite in or within commuting distance of Groton, Connecticut.

Nice to have

• Experience with FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman, or SSNMR.
• Programming experience.
• Strong motivation to learn new technologies and concepts.
