Fire & Life Safety Engineer

Location: Omaha, Nebraska, United States. Domestic and international travel may be required, estimated at 15% or less.

What you will do

• Perform fire protection engineering and code consulting for projects across the United States.
• Design and analyze active and passive fire and life safety systems, including suppression, detection, alarm, and mass notification systems.
• Provide life safety, building code, and fire code compliance consulting, including egress evaluations and performance-based design.
• Develop design analyses, code requirement summaries, life safety plans, engineering reports, drawings, specifications, riser diagrams, and schedules.
• Manage dedicated fire and life safety projects and FLS work within interdisciplinary projects.
• Conduct occasional on-site project observations and reviews and oversee construction-phase services.

Requirements

• Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
• At least five years of technical experience in fire protection design or consulting involving fire protection systems.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in fire protection, architectural, electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of applicable NFPA codes and International Building and Fire Codes.
• Experience designing fire sprinkler, suppression, and fire alarm system layouts using hydraulic calculation programs.
• Ability to work independently across multiple projects and collaborate with project managers, multidisciplinary teams, clients, and FLS specialists.

Nice to have

• Project management experience.
• Experience with electric fleet vehicle charging facilities, healthcare, data center or mission-critical facilities, higher education, water and wastewater, or industrial process facilities.
• Experience identifying, recruiting, hiring, and managing team members.
