TL;DR
Scientist, Tissue Engineering (Endothelial Cell) (Tissue Engineering and Pulmonary Biology): Building functional bioengineered human lung equivalents using adult and iPSC-derived cells on 3D-printed scaffolds with an accent on endothelial cell biology, co-culture systems, and analytical assay development. Focus on designing tissue-engineering experiments, optimizing bioreactors and perfusion cultures, and evaluating scaffold maturation through imaging, metabolic, biochemical, and gene-expression analyses.

Location: Fully onsite in Manchester, New Hampshire, United States

Company

hirify.global is a public benefit biotech and pharmaceutical company developing therapies for rare diseases and technologies for manufacturing transplantable organs.

What you will do

  • Design and execute in vitro experiments with adult and iPSC-derived endothelial and epithelial lung cells on 3D-printed models.
  • Develop culture systems, co-culture techniques, bioreactors, and perfusion strategies for pulmonary tissue engineering.
  • Create analytical assays to assess tissue formation and maturation, including imaging, immunocytochemistry, biochemical, metabolic, perfusate, and gene-expression analyses.
  • Document experiments and findings in electronic notebooks, prepare project reports, and present research internally.
  • Coordinate experimental planning and progress reviews with lead scientists and supervisors.
  • Contribute to intellectual property, regulatory filings, publications, and collaboration with R&D teams, vendors, and consultants.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Tissue Engineering, Bioengineering, or an equivalent field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant research experience and 2 years of industry or postdoctoral training; graduate-school experience may count.
  • Experience with endothelial cell biology or vascular tissue engineering, plus pulmonary biology, epithelial cells, or stem cell-derived lineages.
  • Strong skills in microscopy, confocal imaging, image analysis, immunocytochemistry, gene-expression analysis, ELISAs, flow cytometry, and viability assays.
  • At least one first-author publication or comparable record of success through products, patents, grants, or fellowships.
  • Knowledge of cell-cell interactions, ECM production, co-culture, cell-blood interactions, thrombogenic and inflammatory responses, perfusate analytics, metabolism, secretome characterization, and dynamic tissue-culture systems.

Nice to have

  • At least 2 years of experience leading a project team.
  • Experience with endothelial cell health assays such as tube-formation angiogenesis assays.
  • Proficiency with microfluidics, bioreactors, or other dynamic culture techniques.

Culture & Benefits

  • Mission-driven work focused on unmet medical needs and expanding the availability of transplantable organs.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration across internal R&D teams and external partners.
  • Eligible employees may receive medical, dental, vision, prescription, disability, wellness, 401(k), and ESPP benefits.
  • Paid time off and paid parental leave are available to eligible employees.
