TL;DR
Engineer - Drives & Propulsion Systems (Marine Propulsion): Developing and validating marine propulsor midsections, gearcases, and propellers with an accent on hydrodynamic design, structural loads, simulation, and on-water testing. Focus on designing boat tests, analyzing instrumentation and simulation data, developing performance models, and creating FMEAs, DVPs, and test standards.

Location: Oshkosh, Wisconsin, United States

Salary: $62,800–$100,800 annually, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.

What you will do

  • Design and execute on-water boat tests with engineering test technicians, analyze collected data, and prepare technical reports.
  • Coordinate CFD, FEA, and component-level structural testing for prototype and vessel validation.
  • Measure marine propulsor loads using load cells, boat-mounted IMUs, and coordinate transformations.
  • Use test and simulation results in one-dimensional performance prediction models.
  • Drive hydrodynamic design changes to gearcase and propeller components during new product development.
  • Develop FMEAs, DVPs, test standards, and design standards for marine drives and propulsion systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
  • Previous internship or co-op experience.
  • Aptitude for aerodynamic or hydrodynamic system design, analysis, and optimization.
  • Experience with Python, Matlab, or similar tools for data analysis and tool creation.
  • Experience designing and executing tests.
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
  • Software engineering or computer science minor.
  • Experience with marine propulsion systems, boating, data acquisition, and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of IMUs, Euler angles, and rigid body transformations.
  • Experience with Creo or other 3D modeling software.
