Survey Crew Chief

Location: Columbus, OH, United States. Work is on-site and includes local travel, occasional overnight stays, outdoor construction-site work, and overtime as required.

Salary: $60,997–$104,549 per year. Typical Columbus, OH new-hire range: $64,386–$76,468.

What you will do

• Direct and assist survey crews with daily field activities and mentor junior staff on survey procedures, equipment, documentation, and communications.
• Operate total stations, GPS equipment, data collectors, automatic levels, and scanners.
• Conduct construction, boundary, and topographic surveys for roads, bridges, buildings, subdivisions, utilities, and other properties.
• Research survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical records, courthouse information, and utility records.
• Read plans and stake-out sheets, select survey techniques, maintain field notes, and record data electronically and by hand.
• Ensure survey accuracy while performing field-to-finish operations and applying coordinate geometry and boundary-resolution procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 5 years of field survey-related experience or training.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project locations, including sites with limited ADA accommodations.
• Proficiency with data collectors, Windows or Android operating systems, and basic computer tools for timesheets and email.
• Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather, uneven terrain, and active construction environments; regularly stand or walk and lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively in moderate-to-loud work environments and work overtime when required.

Nice to have

• OSHA 10-Hour Construction or Safe Land certification.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• NSPS CST Level 3 certification.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, TBC, and Access.
