Senior Linux System Administrator

What you will do

• Develop and document standard operating procedures for provisioning, installation, upgrades, migrations, monitoring, configuration management, and troubleshooting.
• Manage services, software, hardware configurations, and thousands of physical and virtual Linux CentOS systems using Puppet.
• Develop and maintain automation tools in Bash, Python, Perl, and Ruby for UNIX infrastructure management.
• Provide UNIX support to internal developers and researchers through technical solutions and trouble-ticket resolution.
• Research, design, troubleshoot, and implement solutions to complex systems problems while considering cost, technical limits, and security policies.
• Assist with major operating system upgrades, deployments, architectural changes, documentation, and training; mentor junior team members.

Requirements

• 7+ years of significant experience in Linux systems administration.
• Strong knowledge of Linux administration best practices, Linux internals, filesystems, processes, system calls, and UNIX command-line tools.
• Fluent scripting and programming skills in at least two of Bash, Ruby, Python, and Perl.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP and protocols including HTTP, FTP, and NFS.
• Experience building open-source software from source code and supporting users with varying levels of IT knowledge.
• Ability to work independently, collaborate across teams, learn new technologies, and communicate clearly through documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with complex, dynamic, production Linux environments and large public-facing web applications.
• Knowledge of OpenShift, Kubernetes, GKE, AWS, or GCP.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chef, bcfg2, or CFEngine.
• Experience with Git or other version control, enterprise network architectures, and monitoring or observability tools.
