Weapon System Mechanical Engineer (Defense): Designing and integrating mechanical hardware for advanced US Navy terminal defense weapon systems with an accent on requirements analysis, environmental and shock qualification, and physical hardware conformance. Focus on analyzing cost and performance data, reviewing technical specifications and engineering change proposals, and coordinating OEM contractors with Navy stakeholders.
Location: Arlington, VA; 100% on-site and in-office, with no hybrid or remote work.

What you will do
- Lead mechanical and systems engineering efforts for advanced terminal defense weapon systems, including design reviews and hardware integration.
- Drive environmental testing, shock qualification, performance assessments, and physical conformance verification across multiple ship classes.
- Analyze historical hardware and sensor cost and performance data to support estimates, OEM proposal evaluations, material cost negotiations, and Should Cost analyses.
- Act as the engineering liaison between OEM contractors and Navy stakeholders and lead Technical Interchange Meetings.
- Review and comment on mechanical specifications, Technical Data Packages, ship installation drawings, and Engineering Change Proposals.
- Support in-service installation planning, physical integration, hardware modifications, and launcher replacements during depot maintenance cycles.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience as a DoD systems engineer in non-IT systems, including requirements analysis, weapon systems integration analysis, or weapon systems design.
- Eligibility for a DoD Secret clearance is required.
- Ability to collaborate with technical, acquisition, administrative, and subcontractor personnel.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and customer presentation skills.
- Limited travel availability, expected to be less than 10%.
Nice to have
- Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- Direct systems engineering experience with Navy terminal defense systems such as RAM and CIWS.
- Active DoD Secret clearance and prior SIPR account or SIPR systems experience.
