Senior Software Developer (C++) in Bioinformatics and Big Data

Location: Bethesda, Maryland; full-time onsite at NIH-NCBI and/or remote work

What you will do

• Develop, implement, test, and maintain NCBI bioinformatics software and information retrieval systems.
• Build infrastructure for biological sequence annotation and data curation.
• Implement efficient bioinformatics algorithms with scientists, bioinformaticians, and developers.
• Develop robust solutions for production applications, APIs, and services handling petabyte-scale data.
• Learn new technologies and share technical knowledge with the team.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience handling large amounts of data or working in distributed computing environments.
• Programming experience in a Linux environment.
• Proficiency in C++.
• Experience with MS SQL Server, relational database design, and optimization.
• Fluency in scripting languages such as Bash, csh, Perl, or Python.

Nice to have

• At least 5 years of experience working with genetic and biological data.
• Proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript and familiarity with their ecosystems.
• Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and unit, integration, or regression testing.
• Experience using GitHub and cloud technologies.
